Great light is sometimes not a great thing

When you get good light, often photography just boils down to point and shoot. However, there is the concept of too much of a good thing. Sometimes good light just makes us lazy. This shot is an example of that. On one of our mornings in Gir on a past trip, we found this beautiful lion (Raju) basking in the early morning sun.

Since the lion was at an elevation, it was quite easy to look upto it and shoot with the greens in the backdrop and the rather dramatic rimlight. To me right then, it was the simple, gettable and probably perfect shot. I found no incentive to get up from my crouched position in the jeep. It's only when the moment has passed you by though, that you realise there could have been other perspectives for the same scene.

My friend and partner in crime, Anuroop made the most of this setting with two images that are quite different from mine. You can see them here and here.  I'm obviously kicking myself for not moving myself enough that morning. Oh well! You always learn, don't you?
